Church Unity

Church Unity

As we move into 2011, my main concern as Lead Pastor is the same as it has been since we had our first service in January of 2003. I believe our greatest strength, as a church family has been our unity.  

The influence of a church will be no greater than her unity. Jesus prayed in John 17:20-21, "I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their (The disciples) word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they may also be in us, that the world may believe that you have sent me".  The gospel is hindered by fighting and division in the church, however the gospel spreads and is received when we have love for God and one another. Acts 2:47 described the Church at Jerusalem in this way, "praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved." 

We are no different from any other church. We have conflict and problems that arise throughout the year, but I compliment our church family for practicing Matthew 18:15. Jesus said in this verse, "If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother". One of our core values at Oasis Church is "Talk to people, not about people." Up to this point in our church history, overall we have done well in this area, but 2011 is a new year. We must anchor ourselves to this practice of conflict resolution, so that God will be glorified, the gospel believed, and our joy as a church will remain.
